It's the question every extension stylist hears in consultations: how much hair do I need? There's no single magic number, because every client walks in with different density, texture and goals. But there are reliable starting points. Here's how our stylists plan beaded weft and K-tip installs.
Start with the consultation
- The goal. Is she after fullness only, or length and fullness?
- Her density. Fine and baby-fine hair needs less hair so her natural hair can comfortably support the weight. Thick hair needs more to blend without a shelf.
- Her cut. Blunt, heavy perimeters usually need more hair to blend seamlessly.
Beaded wefts (micro wefts)
Every Maven & Mane weft pack is one weft, so the number of wefts you need is the number of packs you order. Our micro wefts can be cut anywhere along the weft with no shedding, so you can size each piece to her head shape.
Volume boost: 1 row, 3 to 5 wefts
For clients who love their length and just want more fullness. Very fine hair may only need 3.
Length & fullness: 2 rows, 8 to 10 wefts
The lower row builds the new length and the upper row blends it into her own top layers. For fine hair, 6 to 8 wefts is usually plenty.
Full transformation: 3 rows, 13 to 14 wefts
For very thick hair or a blunt cut: about 2 wefts at the nape, about 6 in the middle row and 5 to 6 on top.
K-tips
Smooth K-tips (packs of 10 bonds)
Volume: 7 to 10 packs. Length & fullness: 10 to 20 packs.
Wavy & curly K-tips (bundles of 25 bonds)
Hand-made in 100% natural wave and curl patterns. Each bond is 0.75 to 1 gram and is cut down to size before installing.
Fullness: 5 to 7 bundles. Length & fullness: 7 to 10 bundles.
Our best tip
When she's between two counts, plan for the higher number. It's easier to leave hair out than to come up short mid-install. Never add more hair than her natural hair can comfortably carry.
